Founder Story

Turning pain into purpose

Lonnie Barry — Founder

This is a story of redemption, hope, and transformation — and a promise that no young person has to walk their hardest road alone.

"I had to find purpose before I became another statistic. Now I help young men do the same."
— Lonnie Barry, Founder, Can Get Right
The Journey

A path toward transformation

  1. The Beginning

    Growing up surrounded by violence

Our founder came up in a world of street culture, limited opportunities, and constant danger — where survival often felt like the only goal.

  2. The Reality

    Carrying weapons for protection

Like many young men in his community, he experienced firsthand the dangers of the streets, including carrying multiple weapons just to feel safe.

  3. The Loss

    Losing KJ to gun violence

A close friend, Keno, lost his life to gun violence. That loss shook him to his core and became the turning point that changed everything.

  4. The Turning Point

    Choosing purpose over the streets

In his grief, he made a decision: to turn pain into purpose and make sure other young men found a way out before it was too late.

  5. The Mission

    Founding Can Get Right

Can Get Right was created to help young people find purpose before they become another statistic — through mentorship, opportunity, and brotherhood.

Keno's life mattered. His memory now fuels a movement to make sure every young person gets a chance.
